Freddies Transmissions is the best transmission shop in Dallas - specializing in high-end European transmissions.

Many local dealerships refer or outsource their complex transmission repairs to us - our Fleet Customer list speaks for itself.

With over 100 years of combined staff experience, if there is any shop in the Metroplex, which can fix your transmission and avoid a much more costly installation of a new transmission, it is Freddies.

We completely dismantle transmissions, replace weak and broken parts, and also offer special upgrades for high-torque drive trains, special applications, and longer durability.

TRANSMISSION DIAGNOSTIC PROCESS

  • Fluid Check for color, smell, metal debris
    - no charge
  • Shift Test while standing
    - no charge
  • Test Drive (if applicable)
    (note: vehicle must be insured
and have current tags and current inspection)

    - no charge
  • Electronic Diagnostics
    - from $79
  • Pan Drop to check for metal debris on pan magnet, Filter Break to check for metal debris caught inside, and, if debris is found, determination which kind of metal (tells us which parts are broken)
    - requires fluid service with new pan gasket and transmission filter, if no repair is authorized; from $79

At this point, it is clear where a transmission problem is located (typically one, or a combination, of the following causes):

  • Computer-Controller Failure outside the Transmission
    (requires TCM replacement and/or programming)
  • Electric Control Failure (solenoids)
(parts replacement, does not require removal of the transmission)
  • Hydraulic Control Failure (valve body)
(requires rebuild of the ‘hydraulic brain’ of the transmission; no removal of the transmission necessary)
  • Torque Converter Failure
(part replacement; requires removal of the transmission)
  • Transfer Case Problem (if all-wheel drive or 4X4 vehicle)
(separate drive-train component repair; does not require removal of the transmission)
  • Internal Transmission Problem
(requires RDI - Remove, Dismantle, Inspect - and subsequently the repair of broken parts, replacement of all components designed to wear, replacement of original manufacturer design flaws, installation of a shift improvement package, replacement of the torque converter, replacement of all seals, fresh fluid, filter, pan gasket: also known as “rebuild” - more information here)

For major repairs (i.e. transmission rebuild), we credit all diagnostic expenses towards the repair cost.

All transmission rebuilds come with a Standard 12 months / 12,000 mile Warranty (whichever comes first).

We offer Extended Warranties to 24 months / 24,000 miles, or 36 months / 36,000 miles - however, we perform the exact same work on all transmissions, regardless of the warranty.

Sealing a leaking Transmission with over 100,000 Miles

Transmissions over 100k typically develop leaks, as the various rubber seals dry out and crack. This is usually an indication of wear and tear, inside and outside the transmission, and typically requires one seal replacement after another. The components inside the transmission designed to wear out over time (bands, clutches, and so on) are typically also at the end of their life cycles at this mileage.

As a professional transmission shop, we would ill-advise our customers to fix just one leak as it occurs, as repetitive visits for more leaks are very likely. On the other hand, for most customers it is just "my transmission is leaking", for which they bring in their transmission - if it starts leaking again, the customer is likely to assume the first repair (repair of one leak) was not done correctly, when it starts leaking again, even though it is likely a different seal leaking at that time. We end up "owning" the problem, even though we fully disclose the problem of repairing only one seal.

For this reason, we will only fully rebuild transmissions over 100,000 miles, thus replacing all seals inside and outside the transmission, rebuild the valve body, replace all other wearable parts in the transmission, replace the torque converter, and put the transmission in a state as the day it was delivered from the factory when new (or better, if design flaws were discovered for the transmission, which we address as part of the rebuild process).
